Propel Stony Brook as the nation’s premier public-interest AI university, advancing education, clinical care, research and innovation to serve the common good.

  1. Reimagine teaching and learning in an era of AI to strengthen, rather than compromise, the learning and discovery process through the use of this powerful tool.
  2. Distinguish Stony Brook as a leader in AI-enabled discovery, fusing foundational scientific breakthroughs with transformative applications across diverse fields.
  3. Couple AI with medicine and biomedical technology to accelerate diagnosis, treat with precision, improve human health and save lives.
  4. Enhance institutional capacity by deploying AI tools as collaborative enablers that optimize and streamline existing workflows.
  5. Lead in the ethical stewardship of AI, partnering our interdisciplinary strength with technical innovation to shape AI as a tool for good.

Establish Stony Brook as a leader in research and discovery to address society’s and the planet’s most pressing challenges.​
  1. Invest in new and existing faculty to drive world class discovery. 
  2. Accelerate interdisciplinary research through targeted hires, strategic collaborations and partnerships, and expanded promotion and tenure criteria. 
  3. Modernize and expand research infrastructure, including core facilities, scientific instrumentation and advanced technologies.

  1. Invest in excellent teaching, course design resources and mentoring to support a premier educational experience for all students.

Make experiential learning a defining pillar of a Stony Brook education for every undergraduate and graduate student.

  1. Expand pathways to research, internships, service learning, study abroad and entrepreneurship to ensure every undergraduate and graduate student participates in a transformative learning opportunity.
  2. Scale high-impact programs and courses that engage students in our dynamic research mission.

Action 5:
​Expand academic programs and enrollment capacity to maximize Stony Brook’s impact as New York's Premier Public University.

  1. Broaden our global footprint by expanding international hubs and strategic global partnerships to reach talented learners worldwide and enhance our impact.
  2. Expand flexible learning pathways, including SBU Online and accelerated degree programs, to broaden access for non-traditional and continuing learners.
  3. Enhance on-campus capacity to meet growing demand for a Stony Brook education, by optimizing living and learning spaces, maximizing course availability and providing a comprehensive array of academic programs and support.
  4. Build earlier and stronger pipelines to Stony Brook by cultivating robust K-12 partnerships, precollege programs, and dual-enrollment opportunities.

Action 8:
Position Stony Brook as an engine of innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development for Long Island and New York.

  1. Develop a unified, open innovation ecosystem, physically and programmatically, where university discovery, industry expertise and entrepreneurial energy converge. 
  2. Create a startup accelerator on our campus to support the founding and scaling of new startups and to catalyze commercialization of Stony Brook research. 
  3. Position Stony Brook as New York's premier university partner for workforce development in new and innovative industries. 
  4. Launch an integrated New York economic development, industry relations, and innovation strategy, including a New York City presence. 
  5. Activate Stony Brook's global alumni network as a strategic innovation asset.

Ignite the Southampton campus.
  1. Create a place-based, purpose-built curriculum that transforms the Southampton campus into a distinctive regional hub for diverse learners. 
  2. Accelerate discovery by leveraging Southampton’s unique geography to address challenges in climate change, health and wellness.
  3. Serve as the primary healthcare engine for the East End, including through a new hospital, by integrating world-class clinical care with proactive health solutions
  4. Enrich the region by serving as a vibrant cultural and intellectual destination.
