Memorial Arch near the Humanities Building

You are invited to visit the Memorial Arch near the Humanities Building for quiet contemplation and reflection. Place a flower amongst the grove of trees planted as a way to celebrate the lives and grow the legacies of the 21 Stony Brook alumni who perished in the attacks on 9/11, and whose names are engraved on the Memorial Arch.

Campus Wide

The campus chimes will ring 21 times at 8:46 a.m. to remember the legacies of the 21 Stony Brook alumni who perished in the attacks on 9/11.  

In the Student Union on West Campus

Hosted by the Stony Brook University Student Blood Drive Committee (SBCDC) with support from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and the International Police Association and dedicated to our 9/11 heroes.
The Staller Center for the Arts is donating two tickets to each donor to “Gravity & Other Myths Presents: Ten Thousand Hours” at Staller Center on Sunday, October 18, at 7 pm.

On the Academic Mall 

On Friday, September 11 at 12:00 pm, join us between the SAC and the Library for the 9/11 Pinwheel Garden. This meaningful display honors and remembers the lives lost during the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Participants will have the opportunity to plant a pinwheel in remembrance, creating a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and hope. The pinwheels will serve as a reminder of the importance of reflection and honoring those we lost.

Help us paint rocks with messages of remembrance, peace and/or any positive expressions you’d like to share as part of a special September 11 memory rock garden that will be ‘planted’ in the Memorial Arch area.
