<biography>

Samira Patel is a professor of social welfare and associate dean for research whose scholarship focuses on disability, access to community services and interdisciplinary practice. She examines how the design of programs can either support or complicate participation for people with different communication, mobility and support needs. Her approach brings together social work, community health and participatory research.

Patel directs the fictional Inclusive Community Practice Program. The program develops illustrative studies with community partners and places accessibility at the center of research planning. Projects consider recruitment materials, interview formats, consent processes and the ways findings are shared. She is interested in making participation meaningful throughout a project rather than treating community consultation as a single step.

Her academic work grew out of professional experience in community-based social services. That background shaped a commitment to practical questions: how families navigate systems, how practitioners coordinate support and how organizations learn from service users. Patel completed graduate training in social work before pursuing doctoral research on inclusive program evaluation.

In teaching and mentoring, Patel emphasizes reflective practice, careful interpretation of evidence and collaboration across professional roles. She teaches research methods and advanced practice seminars and supports students developing community-engaged projects. As associate dean in this fictional example, she also coordinates research development activities and mentoring for early-career faculty. The clinical material on this page demonstrates how practice specialties can sit alongside scholarship without including patient information or implying an active service.
