Our Art Galleries

Stony Brook University is home to three art galleries, the Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery, presenting contemporary art, the Charles B. Wang Center focused on Asian and Asian-American culture, and the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, offering innovative exhibitions of art, math, & science. The Melville Library exhibits items from Special Collections as well as student art. Experience all of our art venues by joining a campus-wide Art Crawl, offering lively curator-led tours each semester.

The Staller Center for the Arts is a unique hub of activity offering world-class live performances and outstanding entertainment conveniently located in the center of campus. Exploring the Community

Stony Brook University is situated at the geographic midpoint of Long Island — about 60 miles east of New York City and 60 miles west of Montauk Point. Long Island’s villages, hamlets and towns each have their own distinctive character, and each features a wide range of housing choices, culture, and recreation. It is only a short distance to the Atlantic beaches of the south shore and the vineyards of the East End as well as a quick train ride from the campus to Manhattan.

CommUniversity Day

CommUniversity Day is a free, family-friendly festival that highlights the many facets of the campus community through hands-on activities and entertainment. Long considered a launchpad for children’s aspirations, CommUniversity Day is held each September during Family Weekend. It’s a vibrant, engaging celebration where schools, departments, and programs across Stony Brook University open their doors for interactive experiences that invite you to explore new interests, discover future possibilities, and see learning in action.

COMMUNIVERSITY DAY
Seawolf Shuffle 5k Walk/Run

Wolfiedash

Our six-week Couch to 5K program is designed to help employees of all fitness levels build endurance and confidence as they prepare to complete a 5K run or walk. Participants can put their progress to the test twice a year at two annual 5K Walk/Runs—the Wolfie Dash and the Seawolf Shuffle—both free and open to all members of the Stony Brook University community.

Earthstock

Earthstock is Stony Brook University’s annual Earth Day celebration, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community to highlight sustainability, environmental awareness, and climate action. Through interactive events, educational programs, and campus-wide initiatives, Earthstock showcases Stony Brook’s commitment to environmental stewardship while inspiring everyday sustainable practices. The event reflects the university’s broader sustainability efforts, from energy conservation and recycling to research, education, and community engagement, all aimed at building a more sustainable future.
