Be Involved Opportunities:

Parent Fund Gifts to the Parent Fund provide a way for parents, family members and supporters to endorse the extraordinary education and opportunities Stony Brook University provides their children. Contributions to the Parent Fund provide parents, family members and supporters with a unique opportunity to participate directly in the mission of ensuring students’ success.

Honor Your Graduate Commencement Gift – Commencement is a significant milestone for Stony Brook University families to celebrate!  It is a special moment for parents to honor their graduate’s academic achievement, hard work, and personal growth with a gift to the University. Contributions will be attributed to the Honor Your Graduate Gift but family members and supporters can self-direct funds to either the Parent Fund or another area of the University they prefer, that reflects their graduate’s experience or interests.

Annual Crowdfunding Campaigns – Participate in annual Giving Day and Back the Brook fundraising campaigns to support the programs, initiatives, and opportunities that matter most to families or their students, making a direct and meaningful impact on the overall undergraduate experience.

Career Networking – In partnership with the SBU Career Center, parents and family members facilitate the establishment of internships/job opportunities at their place of employment, welcome students to shadow them for one day to experience fields of interest or serve as professional mentors to current students and alumni through an extension of Mentor Connect.

Volunteerism – Increased family involvement can enrich our students’ overall experience and the SBU community by representing “Seawolves Pride” as ambassadors at signature events on and off campus or by initiating unique, meaningful projects. For example, collaboration with Enrollment could include families at Admitted Students Days, regional Summer Send-offs, and parent portal writing contributions.

International Friends & Family Program (IFFP) – A unique opportunity for SBU families to connect with newly admitted SBU undergraduate and graduate international students and establish mutually rewarding relationships that can last beyond the student’s time attending SBU. IFFP aims to foster a sense of belonging through meals or activities and provides a cultural exchange of country, culture and language for the participants. “The program is not a homestay program and does not offer housing or financial support for students.”
