Food Safety

Food Safety is Taken Very Seriously

SBU Eats is committed to provide high quality and safe food service. For our customers, safe food service is a matter of trust. That’s why we put significant resources into the food safety program to ensure all associates, vendors, and suppliers perform and operate in accordance with established food safety guidelines and codes. Food safety program procedures include food protection, food temperature, cleaning and sanitation, associate education and training, inspection, personal hygiene, handwashing, audits, and much more to ensure a safe and pleasant dining environment. We have experienced food safety, quality assurance, and purchasing professionals in place to ensure that our very high standards are met. Associates are also trained on food allergies.

Supply Chain Safety

Campus Dining is in constant contact with our distributors to make sure we give you what you need, when you need it. Our products have always been sourced from a safe and secure supply network and robust distribution system. We continue to work with our partners to bring you the safest food available for purchase.

Hand Sanitizing Stations

Hand sanitizing stations are available at all dining locations on campus. These stations are placed at all entrances, stations that are self-serve and stationed throughout the dining facilities to reduce the risk of hand contact contamination. These stations do not replace the act of handwashing, but help reduce the risk of contamination when handwashing facilities are not readily available.

Government Food Safety and Sanitation Codes

The SBU Eats food safety program is in full compliance with applicable federal government food safety and sanitation codes and regulations, as well as, all state and local health codes. All Areas of our operation undergo rigorous third-party food and safety audits to ensure the highest industry quality assurance standards are met.

Support is Here for Students

The health and safety of every guest is always SBU Eats' highest priority. We want students to know that if a guest reports a suspected foodborne illness or instance of adulterated food, we have a process in place that includes alerting and gaining assistance from the University and local health services. As soon as campus management is notified of a problem, immediate action is taken to reach out directly to any affected individuals in order to confirm, research, and address the issue as quickly as possible. SBU Eats' management and support departments review all food safety protocol procedures. The cooperation of concerned or affected individuals is necessary to ensure the issue is fully investigated and resolved.
