Ali Raj

Part-Time Lecturer

Ali Raj is an award-winning communications historian, educator and journalist, specializing in public information and humanities, science and heritage communication. His teaching focuses on communication theory and research methods, whereas his research explores rhetoric, sound and global communication.

He serves as a Research Director at the Library of Congress’ Radio Preservation Task Force, and as a communications and editorial strategy consultant at various news organizations and research institutes.

He is also the creator and producer of Sounding Board, an audio series about South Asian music, Islamic sound arts and the Urdu literary tradition. The project is supported by Humanities New York, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Society of Fellows in the Humanities at Columbia University.

Ali holds a master’s in journalism, and a PhD in communications from Columbia University.
