• Prospective students: We are actively seeking highly motivated students eager to gain interdisciplinary research experience. We particularly encourage applicants with a strong interest or background in smart materials, smart structures, advanced manufacturing, sensors, actuators, bio-integrated systems, or robotics to apply. Prospective students should submit their applications through the degree program and explicitly indicate their interest in Dr. Shanshan Yao’s research group.
  • Opportunities for SBU Graduate and Undergraduate Students: We welcome motivated undergraduate and graduate students at Stony Brook University to join our research efforts. SBU students can get involved through several pathways, including:

(1) Our Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) program focused on "Soft Electronics for Sensing and Actuation";

(2) Research projects via MEC 499, MEC 596, or MEC 599;

(3) Various campus research programs (e.g., URECA, SOAR, Simons programs).

  • Postdoctoral Research Positions: We are seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join our team. Candidates with a strong background in nanomaterials, flexible and stretchable electronics, soft actuators and robotics, haptic interfaces, or advanced manufacturing are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Visiting Students/Scholars: We are always open to hosting motivated visiting students and scholars in our group. We invite researchers pursuing degrees at SBU as well as visiting researchers affiliated with partner home institutions to collaborate with our team.
  • To Apply: Interested candidates and prospective students are encouraged to contact Dr. Shanshan Yao (shanshan.yao<at>stonybrook.edu) with the CV, a brief description of research interests, and relevant supporting materials (e.g., transcripts, list of publications).
