Philip Kuehn

Philip Kuehn embodies the profile of a comprehensive musician, navigating the confluence of  music performance, education, production, recording/engineering, business, social media, and all requisite domains of contemporary musical practice. His artistic contributions include original compositions, arrangements, transcriptions, research, and high-profile performances on platforms such as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The White House, Carnegie Hall, The Today Show and stages across five continents. Among his collaborations stand luminaries including Quincy Jones, Take 6, Jon Batiste, Lil’ Wayne, Harry Connick Jr., Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Tony Bennett, Roy Hargrove, The New York Voices, Emmet Cohen, Donald Vega, Veronica Swift, Cyrille Aimee, Gerry Polci, Anthony  Hamilton, and more. 

Notably, Philip advanced to Tenured Associate Professor at Snow College in Ephraim, UT, where he directed the Jazz Studies program from 2014 to 2022. Most recently, Philip served as the Conductor  and Co-Director of Performance Music at The University of Scranton. 

Philip's bass performances garnered distinction through their inclusion in Disney/Pixar's  triumphant film "Soul,"honored by Grammy, Oscar, and Golden Globe accolades. His contributions  constitute 85% of the on-screen bassist's role and the incidental jazz compositions within the movie. In  2020, he collaborated with Quincy Jones on an extensive arrangement of “Ode to Joy” for the Beethoven  Orchester Bonn in celebration of Beethoven’s 250th Anniversary. His scholarly contributions find  recognition within the pages of "Teaching Music Through Performance in Jazz, Vol. 2," compiled by  Ronald Carter and Richard Miles. In 2019 he was invited to direct the Utah Music Educator's Association  All-State Jazz Band. He is an Essentially Ellington Clinician for Jazz at Lincoln Center and became  certified by Avid to teach Sibelius Fundamentals. He has collaborated with other arts disciplines such as  theater, dance, and visual art.
