Overview

Located on Long Island, an hour east of New York City, Stony Brook University is one of the premier research institutions in the United States. Stony Brook University offers semester or year long programs for exchange or visiting students from our prestigious partner universities around the globe. 

In addition to the challenging courses, we encourage all students to engage in the numerous opportunities and activities we have to offer. Our students come to enjoy the campus life and have quickly become active member of our campus community.

 

Our course catalog contains all undergraduate courses offered at Stony Brook University. Students have the ability to search courses by keyword, name or subject.

Please note, course offerings are subject to change and offerings may vary by semester. 

Restricted courses: Health-sciences (HAD), School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Dental Medicine, and Pharmacology subjects and:

  • CSE 316, CSE 320, CSE 416, CSE Graduate Courses
  • ECO 108, ECO 359
  • EEO (Electrical Engineering Online)
  • EGL 204, EGL 301, EGL 360, EGL 440, EGL 441, EGL 454
  • MEC 225, MEC 325, MEC 316, MEC 317, MEC 411, MEC 440, and MEC 441
  • WRT 101 & 102

Limited Courses: Arts, Biology, Chemistry, Dance, Political Science, Theater, and some language courses

  • CSE/ISE - Limit 2 courses per semester 
  • ACC/BUS - Limit 2 courses per semester

Phase One: Before acceptance students must provide the following documents.
*Note: Completion of phase one is due May 1 for Fall  Semester and October 15th for Spring Semester.

 

Complete the online application and upload the following documents:

Study Statement: A one page, typed Study Statement uploaded to your application.

Passport: Upload a clear copy of the information page of your passport.

TOEFL (if applicable): Exchange/Visiting students must have a minimum of:

  • 80 TOEFL IBT (taken before 01/21/2026)
  • 4  TOEFL IBT (taken after 01/21/2026)
  • 6.5 IELTS
  • 05 Duolingo
