Dedicated to increasing awareness of issues related to diversity at the university level, collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance the diversity of their respective departments, identify and work to remove barriers to underrepresented scholar success,  and at the national level, engage in scholarly research activities and program assessment, with the ultimate goal of contributing to greater body of knowledge related to issues of inclusion and diversity. 

The Graduate School and CIE Collaboration

The CIE advances diversity and inclusion in graduate education, academia, and the scientific workforce. The Graduate School partners with the office to support underrepresented and disadvantaged scholars through financial assistance, mentorship, social support, and professional development programs such as Research Café, Topic-Based Lunches, Real Talk discussions, Invited Speakers, and the Community of Student Mentors. With over 600 alumni and 160 current scholars, the CIE fosters an inclusive academic community and drives initiatives that promote equity and success for all scholars.

A total of $1.7 million in fellowships awarded to underrepresented and disadvantaged graduate students across disciplines through a combination of state- and federally-funded programs

An additional $222k in supplemental funding for conference travel, professional development, and emergency support awarded to underrepresented and disadvantaged graduate students

458 New Prospective Students

Diversity recruitment activities yielded 458 new prospective students, 78 applicants, 29 offers, and 13 matriculations
