Bio
With an impressive career spanning over 25 years, Dr. Elsa-Sofia Morote is a distinguished
educator who has left an indelible mark on the academic landscape. Dr. Morote's academic
journey includes notable milestones such as her Bachelor of Science in Engineering
from the University of Lima, a Master's in Public Administration from the Teaching
Center for Research and Economics in Mexico, a Master of Science from Carnegie Mellon
University, an Ed.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Ph.D. from the International
School of Management in Paris. Notably, she was a senior postdoctoral fellow at the
prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Throughout her career, Dr. Morote has been recognized with numerous awards, demonstrating
her exceptional contributions to academia in various countries. These accolades include
distinctions such as the NSF-Peru Best Engineering Thesis Award, the top student honor
in the Master's program at CIDE-Mexico, recognition as a student honoree in the doctoral
program at the University of Pittsburgh, and Best Research Paper Awards at international
conferences in India and France. Her dedication to education and advocacy for accessibility
earned her the Latina Hat Community Advocate Award from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
in the United States.
Teaching: As a dedicated professor, Dr. Morote currently holds the position of Full Professor
of Public Management at John Jay College since August 2020. Here, she imparts her wisdom to both master's and undergraduate
students while also providing mentorship to junior faculty members. Previously, she
served as a professor in the Graduate School of Education, Department of Educational
Administration, Leadership, and Technology at Dowling College for 14 years until it closed.
Dr. Morote's commitment to her students is evident in their admiration for her as
an outstanding professor, mentor, and role model. In recognition of her significant
contributions, the Dowling Alumni Association honored her in 2015 for her dedication
to their program.
In addition to her roles at John Jay College and Dowling College, Dr. Morote shares
her expertise as an adjunct instructor at Stony Brook University, where she contributes to the education of Ph.D. students in Science Education, Master's
students in Higher Education Administration, and those pursuing a Master's in Business
Administration.
