Research Interests

I am interested in how women manage reproductive energy costs given diverse lifestyles and environments. I primarily focus on (1) the physiology of female reproduction and (2) the determinants of variation in reproductive and health outcomes across the female life course. Much of my work has considered how physical activity shapes physiology and health during and after pregnancy. To conduct my research, I use laboratory techniques in molecular and exercise physiology to measure energy expenditure, physical activity, body composition, hormones, and other biomarkers. I also implement surveys and focus groups with research participants, which contextualize the physiological data collected. I work directly with populations in the United States and Kenya.
