SPD Spring 2008 Academic Calendar
This calendar addresses SPD students only. It is
not for undergraduates or for students matriculated in the Graduate
School or HSC. This calendar was accurate as of 4/11/08. It is subject to changes and updates.
January
Jan. 28, Mon. On-campus and
all SPD Online classes begin.
Late registration
begins; a $40 late fee applies.
Last day students can place themselves on a waitlist for SPD Online courses. Reminder: Students who place themselves on a waitlist and change their intent to enroll, MUST DROP themselves from the waitlist. If students are enrolled from the waitlist, students are responsible for any Tuition Liability incurred.
Jan. 30, Wed. Senior Citizen Auditing Program registration.

Jan. 31, Thurs. Last day to add SPD Online 9-week courses.
Last day of waitlist operation.
February
Feb. 2, Sat. First day of 10-week Saturday classes
Feb. 3 , Sun. Last day to drop a class or withdraw
from the University without tuition liability. Must be done via SOLAR
System, as service offices are closed on weekends. SPD students
are able to drop down to zero credits via the SOLAR System (no petition
is required).
Feb. 8, Fri. Last day to drop or withdraw
from the University without a "W" (withdraw) recorded on student
record. Tuition liability remains applicable. After this date, students
may continue to withdraw from face-to-face courses using SOLAR until March 24; students may continue to withdraw from SPD Online
nine-week courses until Feb. 15. (NOTE: Students MUST withdraw themselves
using SOLAR; petitions will not be accepted until after the withdrawal deadlines).
Last day to process a swap without a petition. Tuition liability may apply if student reduces credit load.
Feb. 9-15, Sat. - Fri. Swaps. For swaps
between these dates, students MUST petition SPD. If student reduces credit load after Jan. 29, tuition liability
will apply. If student reduces credit load after Feb. 3, tuition liability will apply.
Feb. 15, Fri. Last day to add classes
(except for SPD Online nine-week courses -- see Jan. 31 entry). End of late
registration.
Last day to withdraw from a SPD Online nine-week
course (a "W" will be recorded). After this date, students must petition the SPD
Committee on Academic Standing to withdraw.
March
March 4, Tues. Stony Brook Day in Albany.
March 12, Wed. Last day
for removal of Incomplete grades from the Fall 2007 term. After this date,
all "I"/Incompletes will revert to "I/F". The "F"
is then calculated into the student's GPA.
Last day
for SPD students to withdraw from one or all on-campus courses ("W"
will be recorded). Petition is NOT required. See Tuition Liability Schedule. After this date, students must petition the SPD
Committee on Academic Standing for changes or withdrawals.
March 15, Sat. Deadline for Spring degree and certificate candidates to apply for graduation. SPD students MUST apply for graduation whether they plan to attend Commencement ceremonies or not. If a student does not apply for graduation, the degree or certificate will NOT be conferred.
Graduation applications received by SPD after the published deadline will not be evaluated until all other candidates for graduation have been processed. This may result in a significant delay. Also, the names of late applicants will not be included in the Commencement program.
Candidates for graduation must apply via the SOLAR System; go to Academic Records>Apply for Graduation.
March 17-22, Mon.-Sat. Spring
Recess. Face-to-face classes will not be in session. Online courses do not observe any holidays, including Spring Recess. Classes resume Monday, March 24.
March 30, Sun. Last day
of SPD Online nine-week courses.
April
April 12, Sat. Last day for SPD's Saturday classes.
April 14, Mon. (tentative). Advance
registration begins for Summer and Fall 2008. Schedules and instructions
will be announced prior to registration.
April 21, Mon. Classes will not be in session.
May
May 12, Mon. Last day of classes for on-campus, Mon.-Fri. classes.
May 14-20, Wed.-Tues. Final
examinations for Monday-Friday classes.
May 20, Tues. End of term.
May 21, Wednesday. SPD's Graduation Ceremony will be held at the Student Activities Center at 5:30pm. (Note: This date has been changed.)
May 23, Fri. University
Graduation Ceremony. Master’s and Advanced
Graduate Certificates awarded.
