FRESHMAN APPLICANTS
Complete and submit EITHER the Common Application OR the SUNY Application:
The Common Application is accepted by nearly 350 selective colleges nationwide, and allows you to apply to any participating school with one application. It includes a supplemental application, an essay of at least 250 words, and a Teacher/Counselor Evaluation form (one teacher/counselor evaluation is requested of all freshman applicants). Out-of-state residents are strongly encouraged to apply using The Common Application.
The SUNY Application allows you to apply to several SUNY campuses with one application. Applicants who complete the SUNY application should submit Stony Brook's Supplemental Application within our secure SOLAR System, which includes an essay of at least 250 words. SUNY applicants should also download this Teacher/Counselor Evaluation form (one teacher/counselor evaluation is requested of all freshman applicants). Prospective Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) applicants must apply using the SUNY application.
TRANSFER APPLICANTS
Transfer applicants should complete The SUNY Application.
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
International applicants are required to complete The Common Application. (See application details, above.) It includes a supplemental application and personal essay.
You should apply as an international student if you:
- Wish to study in the U.S. under a student (F-1) visa. Those with valid B-1 or B-2 visas, must change their status to F-1.
- Currently hold an F-1, F-2, J-1, or J-2 visa.
