How To Apply
Freshmen • Transfer Students • International Students • Non-Degree/Non-Matriculating
1. Apply online:
Apply using either the Common Application or the SUNY Application. There is a $40 application fee.
Students applying through the Common Application should select Stony Brook University, and then indicate our Stony Brook Southampton location on our school-specific Supplement (within the Common Application).
2. Complete Supplemental Application and Submit Essay:
Applicants using the Common Application should complete the Supplemental Application and submit an essay of at least 250 words within the Common Application.
Applicants using the SUNY Application should complete the Supplemental Application, which includes an essay of at least 250 words, within Stony Brook Southampton's SOLAR System. You will receive your SOLAR login within two weeks of submitting your SUNY Application.
3. Send all additional application materials:
Have your school counselor/college advisor send us your official high school transcript and complete the Transmittal Form.
Have your SAT scores and/or ACT scores reported to Stony Brook (our College Board code is 2548 and our ACT code is 2952). Those taking the ACT are required to submit the version with the optional writing section.
Send us one Teacher/Counselor Evaluation:
- Applicants using the Common Application should use the Common Application's Teacher/Counselor Evaluation form.
- Applicants using the SUNY Application should use this Teacher/Counselor Evaluation form.
If you have earned college credit for courses taken while in high school, have your AP scores and/or official transcripts from the college(s) sent.

Note: The State University of New York waives the $40 application fee for up to four college choices for students graduating from SUNY or CUNY two-year colleges who
apply directly to State University four-year colleges for baccalaureate programs. If you are a transfer student seeking the fee waiver, you must complete questions 40-51 of
the application.
2. Send all additional application materials:
Have transcript(s) sent from every college/university attended.
If you have completed less than 24 credits from a college or university at the time of application, have your high school transcript and SAT scores sent.

Pay the $40 application fee (non-refundable).
Complete the Supplementation Application within the online Common Application.
2. Send all academic credentials:
An official score report for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), SAT, or IELTS must be sent directly to Undergraduate Admissions. Stony Brook's code number is 2548.
Official secondary school records with official seal, stamp or signature of a school or government official must be submitted in the original language (if not in English, it must be accompanied by an exactly worded and certified translation).
Note: F-1 & J-1 students admitted to Stony Brook who currently attend U.S. high schools, colleges, universities, or language institutes will be required to complete the applicant portion of Stony Brook's International Student Transfer Report and then submit it to the Designated School Official or Responsible Officer at your current school (usually the International Student Advisor) for completion. This form will be sent after admission and upon receipt of your tuition deposit.
Make sure the completed form is returned to Stony Brook's International Undergraduate Admissions Office. Admission to the University will be conditional upon receipt and evaluation of the International Student Transfer Report.
Transfer applicants only: Official transcripts with official seal, stamp or signature of a school or government official must be submitted in the original language for each post-secondary institution of higher education attended (if not in English, it must be accompanied by an exactly worded and certified translation).

3. Send finances/support documentation:
Complete the Declaration & Certification of Finances form. Documentation of financial support for the entire period of anticipated study at Stony Brook must be submitted. All applicants who are currently on, wishing to obtain, or switching to an F-1 (Student) or J-1 (Exchange Visitor) visa are required to demonstrate their ability to meet all educational and living expenses for the entire period of their intended study.
Complete the Affidavit of Support form. If funds are being provided by family and/or sponsor(s), each sponsor must complete, in its entirety, an Affidavit of Support form and submit it along with financial documents as stated on the form (duplicate this form as necessary). This form must be notarized.
Submit a bank letter or statement for each source of funds. A separate, original bank letter or statement for each source of funds must be submitted in English. Account statements and letters must show actual current amount in account, and statements must be dated no earlier than 30 days from the time it is submitted.
Submit Letters of Employment Verifying Income. All family/sponsor(s) must provide letters of employment verifying annual income. If self-employed, a letter from an accountant or attorney verifying income is required. If submitting tax returns for proof of income, they must be from the previous year and must be submitted in English.
If you are an international student already studying in the U.S., you must submit:
- F-1 students are required to submit photocopies of all Form I-20s (pages 1 & 3 of SEVIS I-20s; pages 3 & 4 pre-SEVIS I-20s); J-1 applicants should submit a photocopy of DS-2019.
- Submit a photocopy of both sides of your current Form I-94 (stapled in your passport upon arrival in the U.S.).
- Enclose a photocopy of the page in your passport that includes your identification photo (both U.S. visa page and home country's page).
- International Students with Dependents must provide the following for each such dependent:
