About the Stony Brook Cares Campaign
The Stony Brook Cares Campaign is the University's annual fundraising drive that collects and distributes urgently needed contributions to hundreds of Long Island charitable organizations, giving vital aid and support to hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders in need.
Managed by the United Way of Long Island and SEFA (State Employees Federated Appeal), the Stony Brook Cares operating budget is mandated to be no greater than 10% of total income.
This means you can be sure that almost all of the money you contribute goes to the people and organizations who need it most.
The Executive Chair of this year's campaign is Dr. Richard Fine, Dean, The School of Medicine.
How You Can Help
Contact your department's designated captain. Or find out about The Cornerstone and Pillars Clubs, initiatives that recognize contributions to the Stony Brook Cares Campaign of $20 or more per pay period. For general information, please e-mail Lorraine Rubino, Lorraine.Rubino@stonybrook.edu.
State Employees Federated Appeal
State employees are keenly aware of the complex network of not-for-profit organizations that provide critical services to meet the needs of families and neighbors. Most state employees are in a position to help people everyday. But many want to do more to help those people who are less fortunate. Out of the collective desire to do more for others, the State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) was born. Click here for a list of SEFA charities.
The United Way of Long Island
By giving to The United Way of Long Island, you don't have to choose. The United Way is an umbrella organization that makes it easy to reach most non-profit agencies on Long Island. When you combine the power of your gift with the gifts of others, hundreds of thousands of local people are helped, and the entire community is strengthened. Working together with more than 175 health and human service organizations, United Way contributors help prevent youth violence, help care for the very young and the elderly, provide emergency food, shelter, and clothing, support job training assistance for the disabled, and much more.
