The Safety Warden Program, developed through a partnership between building managers, Environmental Health & Safety fire marshals, and University police officers, is part of a comprehensive emergency management plan that addresses the safety and security concerns of the Stony Brook campus during an emergency.
Ready to Respond
Safety Wardens are volunteers who assist with communications, evacuation, and coordination of people during emergencies. Safety warden teams are organized by building; building managers serve as building emergency coordinators.
Safety wardens are provided training on their local building emergency plan that identifies and addresses specific hazards, fire alarm signals, and evacuation procedures for a particular building. Upon completion of training, these emergency volunteers receive Safety Warden vests for identification, two-way radios, whistles, and flashlights.
Additional information about the Safety Warden Program can be found in the Safety Warden Brochure and the HSC Safety Warden brochure (downloadable in Adobe .pdf format).
