Participants will explore the development of effective procedures and routines, techniques for gaining and maintaining student attention, and the process of creating an effective discipline plan. Additionally, this seminar will focus on parent contacts as it relates to classroom management. Implicit within the boundaries of classroom management is the recognition of each teacher’s personal style. Presenters will enable participants to examine their personal style and develop classroom management strategies consistent with it.

Addressing Issues of Diversity Through Documentary Film

PEP’s Conceptual Framework emphasizes community and diversity as our teacher candidates bring a sensitivity to these issues into their classrooms. Recently screened on P.O. V., public television’s independent documentary showcase, Farmingville, a jury-prize winning documentary at the Sundance Film Festival, addresses the conflict between long-time suburban residents and newly arrived immigrant populations in a Long Island community.

Students in all PEP programs, as well as cooperating teachers and administrators, are invited to attend as our guests present and discuss the making of this film.
