SBU Signs Licensing Agreement With Siemens For Virtual Colonoscopy Technology
Stony Brook University President, Shirley Strum Kenny announced today that Siemens Healthcare Sector of Germany has signed a landmark non-exclusive license agreement with the University. The license agreement is for the portfolio of innovations related to performing three-dimensional virtual examination, navigation and visualization, the most common use for which is “virtual colonoscopy.”

Former Stony Brook University Faculty Members Drs. Henry and Marsha Laufer Announce $10 Million Gift To Capital Campaign
Dr. Henry Laufer, who served as a professor of mathematics at Stony Brook University for more than two decades before going on to spearhead research at a leading technology hedge fund, and his wife Dr. Marsha Laufer, also a former Stony Brook faculty member, in speech pathology, have announced a $10 million dollar gift to the University.

Internationally Known Periodontist, Researcher And Educator Named Dean Of Stony Brook University School Of Dental Medicine
Ray C. Williams, DMD, an internationally known researcher and educator in dental medicine, has been named dean of the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine. Appointed by Stony Brook University President, Shirley Strum Kenny, Dr. Williams joins the University on February 1, 2009, and will oversee the educational, clinical and research components of the School.

Stony Brook University Professors Receive $1.5 Million Grant To Study Ways To Make The Internet More Accessible To People With Visual Impairments
Stony Brook University computer science professors ,Dr. I.V. Ramakrishnan and Dr. Amanda Stent, and psychology professor Susan Brennan have received a $1.5 million National Science Foundation grant to study ways to make the Internet more accessible and user-friendly to people who are visually impaired or blind.

Former NYPD Commanding Officer Appointed Chief of Stony Brook University Police Department
Robert J. Lenahan has been appointed Chief of Police at Stony Brook University, announced President Shirley Strum Kenny. Lenahan, a 26-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, most recently served as Director of Campus Emergency Management for Stony Brook University. He brings his extensive experience as a troubleshooter in law enforcement, security, and crisis management to further fortify and oversee the Stony Brook University Main Campus, Research & Development Park, Manhattan Campus and Southampton Campus.
