Stony Brook Libraries leases 350 online research databases and over 30,000 electronic journals. Many are unavailable anywhere else on Long Island. Use STARS, the online catalog for the West Campus Libraries, to find books, newspapers, magazines, sound recordings, maps, videotapes, DVDs, and other types of material in the libraries. You can search for these materials by author, title, subject, and various keyword combinations. | | Use Research Databases, to find articles in journals, magazines, newspapers, and similar resources. Many Research Databases, in addition to describing the documents available, link to the full texts of these documents. If full text is not available, consult STARS or the libraries' Electronic Journals. The libraries subscribe to over ten thousand journals in electronic format which may contain articles that are not available in full text in the research databases or in the libraries' print collections. Electronic Texts includes online versions of books that you would normally find in a library's collection as well as collections of primary source and other types of documents that are usually more difficult to access and use in print form. The Reference Shelf links to a variety of reference works online such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, and almanacs. Research Websites are intended to help patrons with their work and present a list of selected Internet sites organized by subject. Off-campus access and use restrictions. Almost all of these electronic resources are owned or leased by the libraries, and are not available on the “free” web. On campus, they are available to all users; however, off-campus access is limited to current Stony Brook faculty, students, and staff. In addition, certain restrictions govern their use, reproduction, and distribution. All users should be aware of and abide by these restrictions. | |
